John Roskill was the nominee of the Hamilton Liberal Association who were not prepared to accept John Ramsay as their candidate. Prior to polling day Roskill agreed to arbitration by the Scottish Liberal Association and when they found that Ramsay had the most support in the constituency Roskill then withdrew. Galloway Weir did not agree to take part in the arbitration and continued his campaign. | |||
