Archibald Macleod, described as a traveller residing in Liverpool, was nominated by members of Thurso Unionist Club. He was immediately disowned by the Conservative and Liberal Unionist organisations and did not appear in the constituency throughout the campaign. It was alleged by the local (Liberal) press that his nomination was merely to deprive Robert Harmsworth of an unopposed return and cause the Liberal Association the inconvenience and expense of a contested election. | |||
