May 1945 Rev Dr James Little resigned from the Conservative Party after a meeting held to adopt two Conservative candidates for the forthcoming General Election. He objected to his name being added to a list of six other candidates who had been put forward for the vacancy caused by the retirement of Viscount Castlereagh. He considered that his re-adoption should not be subjected to a ballot and left the meeting after announcing his intention to seek election as an Independent Conservative. | |||||
