29 March 1916 D Davies was the nominee of the National Union of Attested Married Men, an organisation opposed to the Government's policy on conscription. He was the local secretary of the National (Liquor) Trade Defence Association and opposed restrictions on the sale and consumption of alcohol. Horatio Bottomley's political secretary, Henry Houston, acted as his election agent and Bottomley addressed a number of meetings in the constituency. |
