8 July 1929 Sir Thomas Robinson stated, in a letter to The Daily News that he had been an Independent since the Coalition was dissolved in 1922. "Notwithstanding this my Liberal friends in the House of Commons generously continued to send me their whip which I have regarded as an act of courtesy. To prevent any possibility of misunderstanding in the future on this point, I arranged that the sending of the whip to me should be discontinued in this Parliament." |
