22 July 1955 A House of Commons Select Committee found that Sir Roland Jennings had been a public auditor approved by HM Treasury, a position which would enable him to have been paid by HM Treasury rendering it technically an office of profit under the Crown. The Select Committee found that Sir Roland Jennings was technically disqualified from sitting in the House of Commons, but recommended that Parliament pass a Bill changing the law and indemnifying Jennings and others from the consequences of acting as an MP while disqualified. |
